Originally from Västerås (Sweden), Johan Bark is mainly a theatre director, but also a performer and a musician, currently based in Dublin (Ireland). Johan studied a BA (Hons) Degree in the European Theatre Arts at Rose Bruford College in London and aftewards he moved to Dublin to study a Masters in Fine Arts in Theatre Directing at The Lir National Academy of Dramatic Arts. He has also completed a three-month placement at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre in Tallinn. Workshops and internships include Arianne Mnouchkine of Theatre Du Soleil (FRA), Song of the Goat Theatre (POL), Gardzienice (POL), John Britton (UK), OBRA Theatre Company (FRA) and the Lab Collective (UK).
Johan is a founding member of theatre and visual arts company Romantika, which in 2017 took two different theatre performances, both directed by Johan, on an European tour to England, Sweden, Scotland and France, performing 61 different times in total.
As a freelancer, Professional theatre work has in the past been done for practitioners and companies such as Robert Wilson (US), The Watermill Center (US), Awake Projects (SWE/UK), Iron Shoes Theatre Company (US). Johan is also an Associate Artist of theatre company Awake Projects, an associate theatre director in Yellow Collective (Spain) and a member of ASSITEJ – Sweden (The International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People).
